The yearly aerial-naval Exercise CANALE, conducted and planned alternatively by Italy and Malta in the Central Mediterranean intends to promote cooperation and security in the Mediterranean by fostering interoperability between air and naval forces in maritime surveillance and security operations.

  Seaborder

The SEABORDER Exercise had its origin in 2008, deriving from two exercises then performed within the 5+5 Defence Initiative, a Portuguese one called "ABLE PROTECTOR" (a LIVEX exercise) and the Spanish one called "Galeón" (a CPX exercise).

In order to optimize the participation of the two countries, both decided to make a single joint and combined exercise, involving the two phases, the CPX and the LIVEX.

  Circaete

The main goal of the CIRCAETE Exercise is to joint air security operations and procedures in case of any non-military air threat.

The last CIRCAETE exercise was held in 2011, with the purpose of training personnel, units and organizations involved in the management of Air Security operations in contingencies related to illegal and/or irregular air activities, in two different scenarios at the same time.
