Steering committee, 14th and the 15th November 2017
The 25th steering committee of 5+5 defense initiative met at Chantilly the 14th and the 15th November 2017 under the French presidency. The validation of 2018 action plan and the preparation of the joint declaration of the defense ministers of initiative included in the agenda. The 10 countries of initiative were represented.
Polite body of the initiative, steering committee is composed of representatives of defense ministers of the initiative state members as well as the secretary general of the Euro Maghreb Center for Strategic Researchers and Studies (CEMRES) and secretary of the college 5+5 defense.
The delegations underlined the current dynamism of the initiative with forty activities organized in 2017 under the French presidency. They reaffirmed that the current security context requires facing, together, threats in the 5+5 area notably , terrorism , cross border trafficking and illegal immigration. The delegation also underlined the importance to consolidate the interoperability within the initiative. Program of the activities has been validated for 2018 with especially the exercise Sea Border (exercise of maritime security), Circaete air security exercise and the project of the Operative Planning and Coordination Center (CCPO) which aims to deploy and implement a new operative center able to plan and to coordinate the contribution of the engaged military units to support civilian assets in a case of major disaster in one of the state member of the initiative.
